I like to think of Telemark skiing as variations on a theme, much like that in music. Each composer, the individual skier, uses the same elements but puts them together in different ways.
My role as an instructor is helping skiers find, and explore, variations by assisting them in changing parts of their composition, maybe by asking them to add a note here or alter the tempo there, and then listening together to the melody created. Fantastic symphonies of motion can be composed by awareness and use of the most basic building blocks.
One of the wonders of Telemark skiing is that we all play different instruments in a variety of venues but each of our ski runs is a song created by the heart.
